WHAT ARE LASH EXTENSIONS?
Lash extensions are not the same as strip lashes. They are semi-permanent, synthetic lashes that are glued to your natural lashes through the use of lash adhesive. They are placed on individually, either on each lash or every other lash, depending on the look you are going for.
HOW CAN I TELL IF MY LASHES WERE APPLIED CORRECTLY?
A. Lash extensions should not hurt after they have been applied or as they are growing out, this is a tell tale sign that there are lashes stuck together. Another key element to good extensions is that they are placed close to the base of the lash but not be touching the skin. There should be no clumps or balls of glue on the lashes, you should be able to brush through them easily from base to ends.
HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM A LASH LIFT?
A lash lift doesn’t use synthetic lashes, it is the augmentation of your natural lashes. A perming solution is used to lift and curl your lashes, making them appear longer and more shapely. You can also get a tint to make your lashes darker, giving a faux mascara look.
HOW DO I PREPARE FOR LASH EXTENSIONS?
Before your appointment, make sure that there is no eye makeup or excess product such as moisturizer around your eye area. The area should be as clean as possible. You shouldn’t come to the appointment wearing contact lenses as these cannot be in place during the treatment. This is because it will make it harder in the event that anything gets in your eye during the treatment.
CAN I WEAR CONTACT LENSES WITH LASH EXTENSIONS?
Yes, once the lashes have been applied, you can wear contact lenses again. However, if you notice any irritation when wearing the contact lenses, we recommend getting them professionally removed as it might not be the best option for you.
HOW DO I LOOK AFTER MY LASH EXTENSIONS?
Don’t pick at them – Picking at your eyelashes may weaken them and even make them fall out. This will result in bald patches along your lash line, and an refill would be necessary to restore them.
Brush your eyelashes every morning and night – Use a clean spoolie brush to brush through your lash extensions. This will keep them in order and looking neat. It can also break down any pollen or dust on the lashes which can lead to infection.Sleep on your back on the first night – Sleeping on your back is recommended for the first night as your eyelashes are more susceptible to bending or misshaping if you sleep on your front or your side.
Avoid steam rooms, sunbeds and saunas for at least 48 hours – Moisture should be avoided in the first 24 hours as it won’t allow the adhesive to dry fully. Places such as steam rooms, sunbeds and saunas can bring on sweat which may loosen the lashes. With that said, vigorous exercise should be avoided before the lashes have dried.
WILL EYELASH EXTENSIONS DAMAGE MY NATURAL LASHES?
Good quality eyelash extensions require time and precision. There are instances that can damage lashes for example, if the extensions are attached to more than one natural lash they will cause whichever lash that grows faster to pull out the other lash or lashes. Breakage can also occur if the weight or length of the extensions exceeds what the natural lashes can handle. If you do have breakage a great solution is a lash serum, that helps your lashes grow faster and stronger. When lashes are correctly applied they cause no damage to your natural lashes.
WHY DO I NEED TO GET FILLS?
A. There are three reasons you need to fill your lashes. One is because your natural lashes grow out flipping the extensions. Two your lashes fall out naturally (taking the extension) and regrow. Three the adhesive breaks down and the lash extensions fall off. Anyone of these can be the cause of you losing your lash extensions.
WHAT SHOULD I DO IF I HAVE AN ALLERGIC REACTION TO THE ADHESIVE?
Primarily take a patch test to check for sensitivity to the adhesive. However if a reaction does occur we have found that taking a Pepcid AC with Benadryl helps reduce swelling, redness and block for further reactions. This however is not a solve all solution, people can still have reactions. Another option is a sensitive glue however your retention will drop dramatically and volume lashes are not possible due to a slow dry time.
ARE ALLERGIC REACTIONS COMMON?
Reactions are not too common but they do happen, and it does seem possible to gradually acquire an intolerance for the adhesive.
WHICH STYLE OF LASH EXTENSIONS WILL LOOK GOOD WITH MY EYES?
The answer depends on your eye shape and lashes. Generally speaking; Cat-eye makes your eyes look wider, or more almond shaped, Natural makes your eyes look more open/larger, and Drama will make them look more noticeable. Don’t be afraid to try something new you might just love it!
HOW DO I CARE FOR MY LASHES AFTER MY APPOINTMENT?
First and Foremost don’t get them wet for 24- 48 hours, this means sweat, tears, showering, swimming and much more. After the 24 hour period you should gently wash them 3–5 times a week. This helps avoid possible build up and blepharitis (Never heard of it? Look it up it’s a real thing). Avoid anything oil based as it will break down the adhesive. Also avoid heat, most lashes are synthetic and will lose curl or even become singed when exposed to excessive heat even for a second, like opening the oven.
